FINDING OUR WAY: Navigating Life at the Edge explores Lincoln County’s shared maritime past

The Lincoln County Historical Society is excited to announce the opening of our new exhibit FINDING OUR WAY: Navigating Life at the Edge on September 17, 2021. Exhibitions staff are looking forward to sharing a fresh look and exciting new research in the main gallery at the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center. FINDING OUR WAY will include new artifacts, photographs, and displays about the culture and history of life along Lincoln County’s coastline and waterways. Visitors will learn more about the challenges and accomplishments of Lincoln County’s early residents presented through a narrative that honors diverse perspectives.

A free public opening reception is currently scheduled for September 17, 2021 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center.

Masks and proof of vaccination are required to attend.

Onsite parking is available, and all Historical Society buildings are wheelchair accessible.

The ribbon cutting on July 1st officially opened the pathway

The Lincoln County Historical Society welcomed the public to celebrate the completion of a new pedestrian pathway from Bayfront Boulevard and greatly improved driveway access. The brief ceremony was well attended and marked the public reopening of the facility. The Heritage Center is already seeing an increase in attendance from these improvements and LCHS looks forward to a busy summer season.

On behalf of the LCHS staff and board, we want to thank the following for their generosity so far in helping us complete this much needed project: the Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund for financial backing of this program through their annual community grant program; Leo’s Excavation for their donation of time and equipment above and beyond their bid; the Port of Newport for donating their time and equipment in assisting with our light installation; Allen’s Lot Maintenance; Michael Dean with Tradenet Concrete; and Dan Van Calcar of Soderstrom Architects for donating his time creating plans, designs and providing expertise. Pacific Maritime Heritage Center Reopens

We are happy to announce that the Lincoln County Historical Society will be reopening the Pacific Maritime Heritage Center to the public starting July 1, 2021. The facility located at 333 SE Bay Blvd will be open Thursday through Sunday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Parking is located next to the museum entrance.

The Log Cabin Research Archives will be open for in person research appointments starting the end of July, 2021. The Burrows House Museum will reopen with renovated exhibits in Fall, 2021.

The LCHS staff and board have been hard at work over the past year on a variety of improvements to our facilities and are excited to welcome in the public once more. While we will not be holding our usual 4th of July fireworks reception at the PMHC this year, we will be open during normal museum hours until 4:00 pm on the 4th with free admission for members for the day, $5 for nonmembers, and children 12 and under free.
